Coal
Energy generated from coal is water-intensive. However, coal as a source of energy generation is on the decline. We want to understand what happens to that water when plants retire.
|
Water Rights
Water used by coal-fired power plants is allocated to them through a water right that allows them to divert a specified amount of water from a nearby river or stream every year.
|
The Environment
Our group project explores ways to acquire these water rights and keep water in-stream to improve riparian habitats and the critters they support.
