Alina completed her undergraduate degree at the University of California, Santa Barbara where she double-majored in Environmental Studies and Economics. After graduating, she stayed in Santa Barbara working at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History as an environmental educator and for the City of Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation Department as a Parks Project Specialist. Working for the City, she headed a number of projects that directly impacted the Santa Barbara community. This included creating a walking map of the California Coastal Trail through Santa Barbara, which calls out important historic sites and provides an environmental and cultural history of Santa Barbara's coast line. Working with the Forestry Division, she also developed landscaping guidelines to inform future low-maintenance, visually appealing, and drought-tolerant projects.
Specializing in Economics and Politics of the Environment at the Bren School, Alina continues to pursue her passion for creating pragmatic solutions to environmental problems. Recently, Alina has become especially interested in water resources management and is excited to work with The Nature Conservancy as a Global Water Markets Analyst during the summer of 2017. She believes that solutions to environmental issues depend upon the effective communication between all impacted parties, which is why she is also pursuing a focus in Strategic Environmental Communication & Media. To this end, Alina writes for the adventure blog Barefoot Theory where she hopes to inspire others to connect with the world around them and foster a sense of responsibility to conserve and protect the areas they love!
