Vivon Crawford is a Sustainable Water Markets fellow at the Bren School, pursuing a specialization in Economics and Politics of the Environment and a concentration in Strategic Communication and Media.
Vivon recently graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a B.S. in environmental studies and a minor in professional writing. As an undergraduate she focused on hydrology and environmental planning, while mentoring students as a peer advisor in the environmental studies department. She received an American Planning Association (APA) California Planning Foundation Scholarship awarding her commitment to students as an advisor and co-founder of the UCSB Environmental Planning Coalition, dedicated to students interested in careers in environmental planning. Vivon worked as a land use planner at H&H Environmental, doing due diligence and presenting project findings for utilities, residential, and commercial developments to city and county planning departments throughout the Central Coast. Additionally, she assisted research on the impacts of copper nanoparticles in freshwater systems in the Keller and Lenihan labs.
At Bren, Vivon has developed an interest in the potential for impact investing to protect in-stream flows, conserve natural lands, and restore damaged watersheds. She has participated in a round table workshop for developing California’s water markets and presented on a panel, Market Mechanisms for Incentivizing Green Infrastructure, at the 2017 California Water Policy Conference. She has also continued her commitment to students’ academic and professional development as an environmental studies teaching assistant and Central Coast APA student representative.
Her interests in land use and water stem from her love of the outdoors: hiking, camping, rock scrambling, rafting, fishing, or off-roading in her jeep, Vivon is always down for an adventure. Her favorite places to explore are national parks and national monuments throughout the west, but her two true loves are Bryce Canyon and Escalante.
